The Creekside Educational Trust (CET) is an environmental education charity, which is working to promote the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment in Deptford creek and River Thames area, whilst advancing the local public’s knowledge of environmental matters and promoting the use of Deptford Creek and surrounding area as a place for recreation that will benefit all members of the local community, regardless of background.

Learning Team Volunteer

This volunteer post will support the Learning Deliverers at CET who are responsible for the delivery of educational programmes. We deliver school sessions for over 5,000 children a year and run a wide variety of family activities. This is an excellent volunteer opportunity for a trainee teacher, or anyone interested in career opportunities in environmental education and learning outside the classroom. We are offering volunteer placements which can be flexible in terms of days and duration, but which require a regular commitment. The core hours for a Learning Team Volunteer are 09.30-15.00. Our Learning Deliverers are employees or freelance. We recruit our freelance staff from our volunteers. There may be an opportunity to join our freelance Learning Deliverers team.

Any prior experience working with young people would be desirable but we are happy to offer guidance and training for all the necessary skills. The role will involve various tasks from organising resources, to managing young people and adults, to tidying and cleaning after school visits have finished. You will be accompanied and able to ask for advice at all times, and you can shadow staff and other volunteers initially to learn the role.

What is in it for you?

At Creekside you will be part of a small, supportive team working to conserve Deptford Creek and the surrounding area for people and wildlife. You will have 1 to 1 time with our experienced Learning Deliverers and Conservationists. We can offer guidance, experience, and support for anyone who wants to learn more about outdoor education, working with young people, and wildlife. We recruit our freelance staff from our volunteers. There may be an opportunity to join our freelance Learning Deliverers team.
