From open days to celebration events, every year hundreds of online and in-person activities take place across the UK to mark Volunteers’ Week and celebrate volunteers. 2024 marks the 40th year of Volunteers’ Week, being held on 3rd - 9th June, when Volunteer Centre Greenwich will join thousands of charities and voluntary organisations in recognising the contribution volunteers make across the UK.

Volunteer Centre Greenwich is also celebrating 25 years!

With this year’s 40th anniversary we want to celebrate the contribution thousands of active volunteers make across our Borough along with encouraging local residents to get involved in a cause they care about. This could be:

  • become a visitor assistant or tea room volunteer at Severndroog Castle Building Preservation Trust, you would play a crucial role in preserving and sharing the rich history of this remarkable site

  • supporting our many local charity shops generating vital revenue to continue to run their valuable services for vulnerable members of our community

  • supporting members of the community with food preparation and meals, hosting weekly games and activities at Love Soup Cafe

During the week we're running a series of roadshows, why not come along and find out how you can get involved:
  • Monday 3rd June 10-4pm, General Gordon Square next to the Woolwich DLR.  See what volunteer roles are on offer, grab a goody bag and ask any questions
  • Saturday 8th - join us at Plumstead Make Merry, 12.00 - 6.00pm on Plumstead Common

If you already know what you'd like to do, browse over 100 live volunteer roles by clicking volunteering on our website and apply directly to charities online.

Can you help positively change lives and communities in Greenwich?

"Having a befriender contact me has helped me reconnect with someone.  I haven’t had much contact with people for a couple of years, my health conditions have caused me mental health issues and this has led to me not wanting to engage with anyone, but contact with (the volunteer) has made me feel I am connecting with the world again". (Quote from one of the people on our befriending project).

“I have learnt so much from being on this project, now I am returning to work I will be able to use the things that I have learnt in my job. Thank you for giving me the chance to do this.” (Volunteer)
