People volunteer for all kinds of reasons. Some are looking for a sense of purpose or to feel more connected to the people around them. Others want skills and experience to put on their CV, or a stepping stone toward employment or a new career direction. Some just want to get out of the house and meet people. You can volunteer in a way that works for you - one-off, regular, remote or in-person. The organisations you volunteer with can also nominate you for a Recognition Award at 100 or 250 hours of service, presented during Volunteers' Week each June. Volunteer with Us We also run a number of projects in the local community, with volunteer roles available to join the project team. You do not need prior experience. Here is just one of those stories. Abdi, one of our Be Well Champions trained to listen and support people in the community, visited an elderly lady who had become anxious about leaving the house. During their visit, he encouraged her to walk with him to the community centre just across the road for a cup of tea. She went back several times after that, and eventually signed up for activities there. One conversation opened a door she had kept closed for a long time. Read more volunteering stories
